Login and Change your Password • Go to: http://staff.prairiesouth.ca/sites/username/ • Copy the website address and open a new tab to access the back-end http://staff.prairiesouth.ca/sites/username/wp-admin • Login with the password provided on your email. • On the left sidebar click Users and then click Your Profile as shown below. A new window will appear. Change your password and other information. When you are done scroll down and click Update Profile button.

  4. Logout • Now you have updated your profile and changed your password. Logout and login again to make sure your password works.

  5. Overview: Basic of post and page editing

  6. Overview When writing or editing posts/pages, we are given the choice of using either the Visual editor or HTML/Text editor. By default we are presented with the Visual editor, which acts similarly to a word processor. Clicking on the HTML/Text tab will switch to the HTML editor, allowing those who know HTML the ability to directly edit the markup of a post or page. Note that the post and page editors look and act in a very similar way

  7. Categories • Categories are just like folders that we create on the computer. Before you publish your post please link to the category. If you don’t define the category your published post will be put on “uncategorized” category.

  8. Publishing Once you are done with editing your page or post click the blue publishing button as shown below:

Theme • Theme is the format how your website will look like. • On the left sidebar click Appearance and then click Themes. • On top of the window it will show your current Theme and below will be the lists of available Themes. • If you want to change your current Theme just click the Activate Button under the Theme of your choice.

  11. Widgets

  12. Widgets • Widgets are just like small Apps. These are such as calendars, Twitter, Search Engine etc. • On the left sidebar click Appearance and then click Widgets. • On your website the used Widgets are shown as Right menu categorized as Primary, Secondary and Footer.

  13. To Add Twitter Link • On the Widgets window browse down and see where Twitter widget is. • Click the Add button beside. • A new Widget Twitter window will appear. • Choose the radio button for the kind of sidebar you want • Don’t forget to click “Save Widget”

Menus • By default WordPress makes every page you create as a Top Menu • If you don’t want you can have what is called a Custom menu. • On the left sidebar under appearance click Menus and a new Menu window will appear. • Follow the instructions and you will start creating your own custom menu. • Type the title of your Menu and then click Create Menu button. • The menu can be linked to Posts, Pagesor Categories as shown here.

  16. Uploading Documents

  17. Uploading Documents • Documents are uploaded the same way you upload images. Click Posts. • Choose your option • Editing window will appear • Click Add Media icon on top of the editing menu as shown below. • Click upload file link and follow instruction to upload a file to your computer. Don’t forget to assign a category type for your uploaded file.

  19. Calendar • Calendar is the type of widget • Click Appearance and then click Widgets. • On the Available Widget page click the Add button beside Calendar • Type the Title of your Calendar. • Select the type of Sidebar by clicking the radio button. • After you are done click Save Widget button

  20. Windows Live Writer

  21. Windows Live Writer • Ask It-Dept. to download and install Windows Live Writer on your computer. • After installation, on your computer click Start and then click All Programs. • Browse to where Windows Live is, then click Windows Live writer. • Since this is your first time you will need to configure it. Choose WordPress as your Blog service • Click Next and Next again

  22. Windows Live Writer – Adding Account • On the Web Address of your blog space type: http://staff.prairiesouth.ca/sites/username • See the example. • You can decide to download the theme when asked. I always say yes, but sometimes doesn’t upload the theme. It doesn’t matter.

  23. How does Window Live Writer Look Like. Once you are done editing click Publish
