Understanding the 5-Stage Innovation-Decision Process in Adoption

The 5-stage innovation-decision process by Rogers (2003) offers valuable insights into how individuals adopt new ideas within a system. The Innovator acts as a gatekeeper, introducing innovations. Early adopters embrace and endorse these ideas, paving the way for the Early Majority, who cautiously follow suit. The Late Majority sits back until the mainstream accepts innovations, and the Laggards require firm assurance of success before adoption. This model highlights varying adoption behaviors crucial for understanding innovation dynamics in society.

  1. RGHS Rogers (2003) says that the change agent goes through a 5-stage innovation-decision process: The Innovator/plays gatekeeper role in new ideas of system. The Early adopter/puts his/her stamp of approval on idea. The Early majority/follows with deliberate willingness in adopting innovations but seldom leads. The Late majority/adopts new ideas just after the average member of a system finds it okay. The Laggards/must be certain that new idea will not fail before they can adopt.
