  3. numb • Someone who is numb is unable to move or feel. • I was numb with fear. • What else can make you numb?

  4. escape • To escape is to get away. • The cat chased the mouse, but the mouse was able to escape. • Why would an animal try to escape from something?

  5. fled • If you fled, you ran away. • People fled from the burning building. • What word means the opposite of fled?

  6. shuddered • If people shuddered, they shook or trembled from fear. • The boy in the fairy tale shuddered when he saw the giant. • When have you shuddered? Why?

  7. image • An image is a picture in your mind. • An image can also be a likeness or a copy of a real thing, such as a photograph. • What image comes to mind when you hear the word smile?

  8. newspaper • A newspaper is a set of pages that has news printed on them. • A city newspaper is usually printed every day. • What is the difference between a newspaper and a magazine?
