Types of F Awards • F30 – Individual Predoctoral MD/PhD and Other Dual Doctoral Degree Fellows • F31 – Individual Predoctoral Fellows • Individual Predoctoral Fellows • Individual Predoctoral Fellows to Promote Diversity • F32 – Individual Postdoctoral Fellows • F33 – Individual Senior Fellows

  3. F30 Award • Fellowship for students in an MD/PhD or other dual degree program • Provides a portion of tuition, fees and stipend (stipend is fixed and tuition is a percentage, both determined by NIH) • The fellowship usually also supports the final two clinical years of medical school

  4. F30 Award is Offered by: • NCI – National Cancer Institute • NEI – National Eye Institute • NHLBI – National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute • NHGRI – National Human Genome Research Institute • NIA – National Institute on Aging • NIAAA – National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism

  5. F30 Award is Offered by: • NIAID – National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases • NIAID – National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases • NIBIB – National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering • NICHD – National Institute of Child Health and Human Development

F30 Award is Offered by: • NIDCD – National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders • NIDCR – National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research • NIDDK – National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases • NIDA – National Institute on Drug Abuse • NIEHS – National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences

F30 Award is Offered by: • NIGMS – National Institute of General Medical Sciences • NIMH – National Institute of Mental Health • NIMHD – National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities • NINDS – National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke • NLM – National Library of Medicine • NCCIH – National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health

  8. F31 Award • Fellowship for students in a graduate degree program • Provides a portion of tuition, fees and stipend (stipend is fixed and tuition is a percentage, both determined by NIH)

  9. F31 Award • General F31 • Any student in a graduate program • The same institutes participate as for F30 • Diversity F31 • Under-represented minority or disadvantaged students in a graduate program • All institutes participate

  11. F32 Award • Postdoctoral Fellowship Award • Maximum time as a postdoctoral fellow is 5 years • Supports the stipend, which depends on the years as a postdoctoral fellow • All institutes participate

  12. F33 Award • Senior Fellowship Award • Experiences scientists who wish to make major changes in the direction of their research careers • Support the stipend, which depends on the years as a postdoctoral fellow • All some institutes participate
