  1. Unit 1 ProjectReporting on sustainable development

  2. Human beings have done great damage to nature. The environment is becoming increasingly worse because of overdevelopment. We should do something for the future of the world!

  3. Discussion 1. What is the gift for the future? 2.What do you think we can do for the future?

  4. Task One Fast reading for the structure of the passage.

  5. Skim to find the main idea of each part . The importance of _____________ Para 1-2 sustainable development Natural resources Para 3-5 _____________ Alternative energy sources Para 6-9 _____________ Conclusion Para 10 _____________

  6. Task Two Careful reading

  7. Read part I ( para1-2): The world’s population will increase to about nine billion people. Meanwhile, the past development polluted the environment and wasted natural resources severely. 1. What is the current problem ? 2. What is the possible solution to the problem ? 3. What is sustainable development ? The sustainable development. Sustainable development is long-term planning which focuses on the environment and preserving natural resources.

  8. Read part I ( para1-2): 1. What is not the sustainable development? A. focusing on the environment and preserving natural resources . B. creating better health care, education, house and improved standards of living. C. being different from past development and easy to put into practice. D. our future and the lives of our children will be in danger without it. difficult

  9. Read part II( para3-5): 1.Why are natural resources necessary in our modern lives? 2.What fuels do we mostly depend on? What are the disadvantages of these fuels? • They are nonrenewable. • They are consumed at a much higher rate. • They will run out in the foreseeable future. • Burning them produces carbon dioxide. Many people are pushing for the use of alternative energy sources.

  10. Part 3 (paragraphs 6-9) Functions solar use the sun’s natural energy to provide ____,___,________and electricity. heat light hot water ①renewable; ②never run out; ③help the environment. Wind power is used to _____________electricity. produce use the force of water _______to produce electricity. flow

  11. Read part IV ( para 10) How many countries are mentioned as examples of using renewable energy in Para.10? • one • B. two • C. three • D. four Nigeria (尼日尼亚) Costa Rica (哥斯达尼加)

  12. Careful reading: Read para.10 and answer questions What deep effects will the intrduction of alternative energy bring about?

  13. 1. In the next several decades, it is believed that the world’s population will increase to about nine billion people. This should set ______bells ringing because the bare fact is that, in order for everyone to ______ , serious changes need to be made in global development. This will mean good things for our future, our children’s future and our grandchildren’s future. alternative provide tentative introduce

  26. Task Three Writing

  27. 地球的传统能源有限, 为了我们的后代,节约现有能源, 走绿色发展之路。请以下列要点为主要内容,写一篇有关 环保的短文。

  28. The traditional energy are limited. For our future generations, we should save the current energy and take a green development path. The present situation is worrying, which sets alarm bells ringing.Fossil fuels are still widely used, making up over eighty percent of the total energy consumptionwhilethe use of renewable energy sources, 20%.On top of this, people lack the awareness of environmental protection.

  29. As we know, our dependence on coal and oil for energy supply has caused severe environmental problems. fossil fuels can’t be renewed in a short period of time. Burning fossil fuels produces carbon dioxide, which contributes toair, water and soil pollution and causes global warming and acid rain. However, renewable sources of energysuch assolar energy, wind energy and hydroelectricity are obviously inexhaustible. And above all, they are clean and cause little or no pollution to the environment.

  30. In my opinion, the long-term solution to the problem is sustainable development. On one hand, the government should invest large amounts of money in developing renewable energyand at the same timeeducate the public to strengthen the awareness of protecting the earth. On the other hand, individuals try to lead a low carbon life, for example, saving the limited natural resources and energy and recycling and reusing waste.Only in this way can webuild a harmonious relationship with our earth and benefit our generations to come.
