  1. Case Study on Culvert Analysis for Road Flood Protection Authors:Pelivnoski Bojan1 Ivanoski Dragan2 1Student on Hydraulic Engineering Course at the University of Ss Cyril and Methodius, Faculty of Civil Engineering, 1000 Skopje, Macedonia, e-mail: pelivanoski.bojan@gmail.com 2University of Ss Cyril and Methodius, Faculty of Civil Engineering, 1000 Skopje, Macedonia, e-mail: ivanoski@gf.ukim.edu.mk

  2. Safety • Case Study • Causes for Damages • Determination of the Causes • Culvert System Analysis • Hydrological and Hydraulic Analysis INTRODUCTION BojanPelivanoski

  3. Study Area • South-East of Macedonia (Strumica) • Regional Road P-605 Section Kuklish-Svidovica • The foot of the mountain Belasica in flat terrain • Current condition of the culvert Regional road P-605 Location of the culvert on the Regional road P-605 CASE STUDY BojanPelivanoski Catchment area

  4. DTM (Digital Terrain Model) • Raster Design (from scanned maps) • Civil 3D • Catchment Area Properties • 3D Surface • Mean Slope of the Area • Hydro flow Hydrographs Extension for Civil 3D • SCS Runoff Method • Rational Method Hydrological Analysis BojanPelivanoski

  5. Used Software HEC-RAS 4.0 • Methodology • Hydraulic analysis of the current condition • Hydraulic analysis with cleaned inlet and outlet of the culvert Hydraulic Analysis BojanPelivanoski

  6. The size and shape of the culvert are over designed in order to pass the required design discharge • The hydraulic capacity of the existing culvert system is more than enough • The overflow of the road is prevented for the design discharge with 100-yr return period • The maintenance of the culvert must be regular • Recommendation: • The high values of the shear stress in the main channel can indicate washout of the gully, which will cause huge damages in the gully as well as in the culvert. Protection measures against erosion in upstream sub-watershed need to be designed. CONCLUSIONS BojanPelivanoski

  7. The presented work was initiated, guided and supervised by Professor Cvetanka Popovska from the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the Ss Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje, Republic of Macedonia. The authors would like to acknowledge gratefully her help, support, open wide and useful discussions, as well as the financial support of the Faculty of Civil Engineering in Skopje ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS BojanPelivanoski
