Cultural Identity in a Worldwide Classroom - Spanish Geography Tour

This Comenius project aims to explore the cultural identity of Spain through geography, history, music, literature, and arts. Students will learn to identify and locate rivers, mountains, provinces, monuments, music composers, authors, and paintings. The activities promote responsible and constructive behavior, use of ICT, and group collaboration.

GEOGRAPHY: Spanish tour ACTIVITIES SAMPLES FOR THE EUROPEAN WORKBOOK • Session: 60’ Students: 12-15 yearsold • Aims: • To identify and locate in a map the principal rivers and mountainous systems of the Spanish relief. • To identify and locate in a map, the different provinces that form the Spanish territory. • To identify, locate and know the history of the different monuments of our country. • To take part in the activities of group adopting a responsible, constructive and solidarity behavior. • To use the ICT as a instrument for learning and sharing knowledge. • Methodology: Classdividedinto 8 groups: • Group 1: Tolocate, in a physical map of Spain, the principal rivers and mountainous systems in Spain. • Group 2: To locate and identify in a map all the provinces that form Spain. • Groups 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8: To draw and look for information about the most important monuments in Spain. *U-shaped class • Resources: encyclopedias, maps and ICT (Internet)

ACTIVITIES SAMPLES FOR THE EUROPEAN WORKBOOK HISTORY & MUSIC: Best Spanish musiccomposers LITERATURE: Authors & Novels Session: 60’ Students: 12-15 yearsold Aims: To identify different authors and novels of the Spanish literature. To value the literary manifestations as am expression of values, ideas and feelings. To enjoy the literature as source of new knowledge and experiences, and as pleasant activity to be done during leisure time. To be able to use. Critically, the bibliographical sources, adapted for the study of the literature. To take part in group activities taking a responsible, constructive and solidarity behavior. To use the ICT as an instrument to learn and to share knowledge. • Methodology: In groups of 4 or 5 studentswillhaveto: • To look forrelevantinformationonwell-known Spanish musiccomposersthroughouthistory. • Toorganisetheinfofound. • To share material and makethefinal product: a chronologicalstudy of famous Spanish musiccomposers.

  5. ACTIVITIES SAMPLES FOR THE EUROPEAN WORKBOOK LITERATURE: Authors & Novels ARTS: Portraits of a Nobleman Session: 60’ Students: 12-15 yearsold Aims: To identify the character of “El Quijote”. To relate paintings and literature. To develop artistic skills. To promote creativity. To take part in group activities taking a responsible, constructive and solidarity behavior. To use the ICT as an instrument to learn and to share knowledge. • Methodology: Classdividedinto 5 groups. • Eachgroupwillworkontwoauthors and twonovels. • Resources: ICT (Internet) and encyclopedias • Final Product: Tofill in a tablewithinfoaboutdifferentauthors and famousworks in Spanish Literature.

Methodology: This activity consists of looking for pictures of “El Quijote” (character based on the novel " Don Quijote de la Mancha " written by Miguel de Cervantes) the pictures are doing by famous painters. Under the illustration they will have to add the biography of the author. They will work on this activity in groups, and later they will read jointly with the whole class. Resources: encyclopedias and ICT (Internet) Example: Pablo Picasso (1955)
