Referendum No. 19527 • “Do you favor the levy and collection of a tax of not more than 20.0 mills, the current tax being 15.3 mills, upon all the taxable property in the Poplar Springs Fire Service Area for the purpose of providing funds for hiring paid fire fighting personnel, purchasing additional equipment for the Service Area, providing funds for the increased operating expenses of the Service Area, and defraying other expenses incurred by the Service Area in providing fire protection within the Service Area?” REVISED: 03/11/14

Financial Impact • 4 additional fighters = $188,000/YEAR (est.). • Proposed 4.7 mil increase = additional $4.70 per $1,000 assessed value * Tax Impact: Market Value (MV) x 4% = Assessed Value (AV) ** $150,000 (MV) x 4% (Residential Rate) = $6,000 (AV) *** 6,000 (AV) x .0047 = $28.20 Increase (Note: Reassessment occurs every 5 years with millage rolled up or down in accordance with state statue. PSFSA’s millage from FY’10 through FY’13 remained constant at 15.3 mills. Our FY ’14/15 is projected to be slightly lower at 15.1 mils. How does this tax increase affect you? 13 REVISED: 03/31/14

  14. Potential Insurance Impact * The average is based upon the current rates of 4 insurance companies. Increased Annual Insurance Premiums (avg.) If PSFD’s ISO Class changes from Class 4 to Class 5, the average insurance premium increase = $74.50 (2-3X avg. potential property tax increase). REVISED: 03/11/14
