Early life • Hajibeyov received his early education in a religious school (madrasah), where he perfected his Arabic and Persian. Later he studied at a two-year Russian-Azerbaijani school. Here, with the help of his favourite teacher MirzaMehdiHasanzadeh, he familiarized himself with the heritage of the famous classic writers of the East and the West. • UzeyirHajibeyov was born in Agjabadi in the Elizabethpol government of the Russian Empire, which is now part of Azerbaijan. His father, Abdul HuseynHajibeyov, was the secretary to KhurshidbanuNatavan for many years, and his mother, Shirin, grew up in the Natavan household. Growing up, Hajibeyov was strongly influenced by Natavan's work.
“O Olmasin, Bu Olsun” (If Not That One, Then This One) The comedy was edited several times, and was performed in some of the cities of Caucasus, Dagestan, Central Asia as well as abroad (Bulgaria, Turkey). It is being successfully staged today as well. L i b r e t t o was translated into Armenian, Georgian, Tatar, Russian and other languages of the peoples of USSR.
“Arshin Mal Alan” In 1938 the comedy was shown during the days of Decade of Azerbaijani Art in MoscoThis musical comedy was also staged in many cities of the Soviet Union and abroad, including New York, Paris, London, Sofia, Berlin, Istanbul, Tehran, Cairo, and Warsawa.
