Under this, raw diamonds were transformed into beautiful and magnificent gemstones. That time, they were strictly reserved for the high society and the royals. Some of the world’s finest diamonds are cut and polished in Surat, a small town on the west coast of India. Their craftsmanship is almost second to none. A cut and finely polished diamond pose more than a thousand times value then a raw stone fetched from the mine. The market value of a diamond cutter is established with the fineness of the cut and polished diamond. With the arrival of finely crafted diamonds, jewellery makers thought to incorporate them into their jewellery and value to them. Indian Jewellers are skilled at identifying, polishing and setting the diamonds right. There are around 6,500 diamond manufacturers in the country. The diamond industry in the country is based on extremely high-value transactions that demand mutual trust. Also, India’s diamond exports ranked second in the world, valued at US$ 18.1 billion, which accounted for 15.3% of the global diamond exports in FY17. However, over the years with excessive mining, gem-quality diamonds are getting increasingly extinct. Less than 20% of mined diamonds are considered to be of gem value and among them, only 2% is considered exclusive and investment grade. And only a few
