  2. Question for Springboard Panel • As we expand our program from over 1,300 participants to every corner of Maine, how do we identify and leverage the best channels to reach every child ages 5 to 18?

  3. YEA dba Build A Biz • Youth Entrepreneurship Adventures (YEA) 501(c)3 is a statewide partnership of education, community, government and non-profit sectors who collaborate to foster youth entrepreneurial education in Maine. .

  4. Our Vision and Mission • Our mission is to educate and support Maine youth in entrepreneurial leadership endeavors. • Our vision is to grow awareness, show potential and create and develop, both scalable and lifestyle businesses, through youth entrepreneurial education.

  5. CHALLENGES • 58,000 Maine children 11-14: how to reach them • Growing the program in a strapped economy • Schools are resource strained • Operational hurdles deter our progress, daily

History • 2010 – investigated acquiring Lemonade Day Maine, a nationally licensed program • 2011 - successfully launched nationally licensed youth entrepreneurial program. 831 youth registered in southern Maine which touched hundreds of families • 2012 –expanded program to register 1379 youth, throughout Maine. Online registrations went up 25%

Build A Biz Program • Kids register and take a 4-module online course • Kids “write a business plan” by answering questions in an online form • Three winners compete (9-13) on “Pitch-It,” Rob Baldacci’s TV Show (recorded on May 7) • Statewide “Build A Biz” Day (Sun May 19) • Top 20 Businesses set up in Portland & Bangor • Every kid can set up their business 10 am – 2 pm

Finances and Organization • Breadth of expertise and operations; staff complimented by: • Volunteer staff includes VIA Agency, Flyte Media, Quirk Auto • Working volunteer team of 5 • Active, working Board of Directors • 4 year commitment from Bangor Savings Foundation  funded 50% of our efforts to date • Entrepreneurial ventures of fee based high school program and license plate will help with sustainability and internal resources • YEA seeks support for programs, activities and operations through fundraising efforts; sponsorships and grants

Where We Are Today • Lemonade Day Maine (LDM) has high recognition • Build A Biz has expanded LDM with Maine focus • Supported by In-Kind sponsors • Researching grants available for youth education • Sen. King & Gov. LePage support this project • Creating a Youth Entrepreneurship Day and entrepreneurial license plate

Marketing Strategy • Awareness: Quirk Auto (ads), Northeast Media (PR), Flyte New Media (web/social), VIA Agency (design) • Distribution to Kids • Community Partners: Boys & Girls Club, Learningworks • Online registration (requires parental approval) • Distribution to Parents • Community Partners: Maine Recreation and Parks Department, Bangor Savings Bank, • Staff on site registrations: Maine Mall, Maine Jump, Quirk Auto, Maine Red Claws, Portland Pirates & Maine Seadogs • Online registration

  11. Marketing Possibilities • Current vehicles and strategies have allowed me to reach current scale. Cannot maintain with 1 person… • Have limited resources and need a new tactical scale • We are adding a fee-based program for high school in 2014 which will generate revenue, increase awareness, and help meet our objective of sustainability. I now seek panelists advice to take this further
