slide3
Genome: All of the genetic information, the entire genetic complement, all of the hereditary material possessed by an organism.

Metagenome: the genomes of the total micro biota found in nature and involves cloning of total DNA isolated from an environment sample.

slide4
Over 400 microbial genomes have been published to date, with over 1000 other projects ongoing and more in the process of being launched.
  • Metagenome sequence data processing is in the early stages of development.
  • We need assess the scientific value of microbial genome data.
slide7
individual genomes

NCBI’s Entrez Gene , EBI’s Integr8, UCSC Genome Browser

Multigenome

CMR, ERGO, Microbes Online, PUMA2, IMG, and MBGD

  • Integrated annotation resources

SEED, PUMA2

  • Metagenome resources

GenBank, IMG/M,Megx.net

1 data management characteristics
1、data management characteristics
  • employ established technologies
  • involve organizing data according to a data model
  • require integrating data from multiple resources.
2 presents advantages
2、presents advantages
  • local data availability
  • query performance
  • ability to review
  • curate data
slide14
aims at gradually improving the coherence and completeness of the functional characterization of microbial genomes.
  • contain different collections of genomes and annotations with different degrees of resolution regarding the same genomes.
slide15
Improving the organization and documentation of microbial genome data resources would benefit the maintenance of existing resources and the development of new resources.
  • Mechanisms for funding together with a better oversight of resources are generally lacking at this time.
