  1. Critical Analysis Unit 3, Day 8

  2. Learning Goals Today… • I can identify the type of relationship that exists between two variables (linear, non-linear, no relationship). • I can explain the purpose of the correlation coefficient (r) and the coefficient of determination (r2) in two-variable data. (Today and on-going) • I can be proficient with the TI-83s to create graphs and to determine solutions to problems with two-variable data.

  3. Classwork #1 A market research group is trying to find if there is a correlation between women’s clothing sales and the current year. Data from several years is given as shown. • Describe the confidence of the line, by discussing r, r2, and the residuals. • If the reliability is acceptable, predict the sales of women’s clothing for the current year.

  4. Classwork #2 The table shows the value of RRSP holdings of Canadians (in millions of dollars) from 1983 to 1997. • Determine the most appropriate regression model for the data. • Describe the confidence of the line, by discussing r, r2, and the residuals. • If the reliability is acceptable, predict the RRSP holdings for the current year.

  5. Classwork #3 Complete these problems with the person beside you. Page 54 #12 (be sure to discuss the confidence of the data) #15 (male data this time!)
