  2. Math Tutor • Math tutor at Arizona Western College San Luis Learning Center. • Time elapsed: January 29, 2010 – Present.

  3. Main Goals • Helpstudents pass their math classes • Develop more independent students Secondary Goals • Clarify concepts to students • Introduce rules, theorems and properties to students

  4. How I applied engineering concepts to it? • I optimized the time efficiency of the system. • Request a copy of the classes’ books for tutoring • Move some tutors to the computer lab while the request for computers in the student success center in processed. • Ameliorate the connection student-tutor-teacher • Create a excel spreadsheet that relates the student with their respective teacher and class.

  5. Time efficiency • Problems • There was a time lost at the moment where students came to tutoring and they did not bring a book or notes. • Also, tutoring time was lost when students with online homework asked tutors to go to the computer lab.

  6. How does my contribution improve the system? • Having a copy of the book allows us to minimize the time it takes to start up the tutoring session. • It gives us more examples to tutor from. • By having some tutors in the computer lab, we do not have to waste time going to and coming from the computer lab.

  7. Student-Tutor-Teacher relationship • Problem. • Teachers that give extra credit to students who attend tutoring had to look in the entire sign-up sheet to look for their students.

  8. How does my contribution improve the system? • By having a spreadsheet, teachers can easily identify what students from their classes went to tutoring. • Also, he or she will see how many times the students attended tutoring.
