  5. Hydro power covers about 10-20% of the production of electricity In Finland we have over 220 hydro power plants

  6. The closesthydropowerplant is Isohaara in Keminmaa

  7. Windpower

  8. By the end of 2012 there were 145 windmills in Finland. • The windmills cover about 1% of the energy comsumption in Finland • The windmills are located by the coast. • Our closest plants are in the neughbouring cities, in Tornio, Kemi and Simo, for example.

  9. The oldest windmill in Finland The first windmill was built in Turku in 1463. By the end of the 16th century there were hundreds of windmills. The closest oldfashioned windmill is in a museum in Keminmaa.

  11. Solar energy comes from the Sun. • Because of our location in the north, we can´t use solar energy very much. • Solar power is mostly used in private households.

  13. Geothermalenergy is the heatfrom the Earth. • It´sclean and sustainable. • In Finland the resources of geothermalenergyrangefrom the shallowground to about 15 metresbeneath the Earth´ssurface. • Geothermalheatpumpsusemuchlessenergythanconventionalheatingsystems.

  15. Produced from biomass. • Reduces the discharge of greenhouse gases.
