  3. What is a Public Health Internship? A public health internship is a student-centered, practical experience, within the student’s area of specialization, supervised by a Department faculty member but which occurs in a health-related agency or organization under the guidance of an experienced preceptor or mentor.

  4. What is the Value of the Internship? • “Reality test” knowledge and skills • Develop increased levels of confidence • Increase and refine knowledge and skills • Provide community service • Confirm choice of profession • Source of letters of recommendation • Source of potential employment opportunities

  5. What are the Eligibility Requirements? • Minimum 2.0 g.p.a. for required public health core-courses • Senior status and completion of at least 90 credits • Completed all 400-level public health courses • Completed any outstanding “I” grades in public health courses • Attended internship orientation

The Required Internship Forms • Student Completes and Submits: • Intern Eligibility Assessment Form • Student-Intern Certification of Commitment • Statement of Relevancy • Intern-Agency Contract and Approval Form • Employment as Field Site Forms (if applicable) • Department Obtains: • Student Educational Affiliation Agreement • Certified Resolutions • Non-Discrimination Agreement

  8. The Internship Approval Process Agency Offer Submission of Forms to Faculty Faculty Review Approved Not Approved Department Obtains Required Agreements Acceptance of Offer Approved Internship Site Student May Begin work at Agency
