  3. Your Child’s Daily Routine • Our daily schedule is on the website & on your child’s red HW folder • Healthy snack required daily & late lunch (12:57) • Specials Schedule (Tech is new to your child this year)! • BOCH/ Lessons/ Flex time

  4. 5th Grade Math • NYS Standards Based Expressions Math Program • COMMON CORE State Standards • NYS MATH ASSESSMENT GIVEN APRIL 22nd – 24th • Unit 1 Fractions (Adding & Subtracting) • Unit 2 Decimals • Unit 3 Fractions (Multiplying & Dividing) • Unit 4 Multiplication • Unit 5 Division • Unit 6 Operations & Problem Solving • Unit 7 Algebra, Patterns & Coordinates • Unit 8 Measurement & Data

  5. Math Practice & Technology • IXL - Supplemental web-based Math Problem Solving & Basic Fact Knowledge/ Speed practice • It is recommended that students practice for 45 minutes each week (home & school computers) • FASTT Math program, learnzillion and links on classroom website

Components of Literacy • Guided Reading: • Reading Comprehension Skills/ Reading Fluency/ AIMS Web testing 3x per year • Differentiated Instruction/ Small Group reading • Shared/ Paired Reading: • Core novels/ high interest/ BOOK CLUBS • Engage NY Modules/ Common Core Standards • Students need a novel to read at school/home at all times (Required 30 minutes per night for HW) • Word Study: Spelling& Vocabulary • Weekly pre-test, Immunity, Safari, Sparkle! • NYS ELA Testing given APRIL 14th - 16th

Components of Writing • Writer’s Notebook/ Free Write • Writer’s Workshop (formal writing) • Peer-tutoring/ Coaching/ Cooperative work • Published Class Books(Students bring home creative writing class made books ) • Writing Tasks/ Directed/ Published • Personal Narrative, Persuasive, Explanatory, Descriptive, Expository, Comparison, Poetry, Argument Writing
