  2. Need for Post Forum • Govt service providers have poor track record in public service • Bureaucratic processes, Unfriendly approach • Preference for a court order rather than take pro active action • Consumer action unheard of 30 years ago • No organized efforts to take up issues of consumers

  3. Need for Post Forum • Situation changed in 80s • Several landmark enactments and procedures introduced by GoI • CPA, PIL etc • Establishment of a hierarchy of courts • At District, State and National level • Pro active approach in protection of consumer rights

  4. Need for Post Forum • Organized efforts to protect consumer rights are on the rise • GoI introduced concept of Citizen’s Charter in 2002-03 • RTI in 2005 • Sevottam in 2006 etc are some such measures • Positive steps towards increasing consumer awareness and grievance redressal

  6. Post Forum • Mandatory meetings every…………. • Members of the Post Forum can be: • Prominent citizen’s of the locality • Members of local consumer or citizen’s groups • Regular customers of the PO (individuals/corporate/companies) • Agenda should be prepared in advance

Post Forum • Invitation for the post forum to be sent in advance • Agenda can be sent along with invitation • On the day of the Forum: • Invite members cordially • Provide light refreshments • Discuss the issues one by one • Postmaster should be the convener & moderator • Minutes of the meeting to be noted

Post Forum • On the day of the Forum: • Minutes to be preserved as an office record • Date of the next meeting fixed • Inform post forum members about the same • Thank them for attending the Forum • Initiate action for settlement of issues • Refer to appropriate authorities- if solution is not possible at your level • Include steps taken in the agenda for next Post Forum meeting
