  2. Point A location in a plane or in space, having no dimensions. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Apollo_17_The_Last_Moon_Shot_Edit1.jpg http://office.microsoft.com/clipart/default.aspx?lc=en-us This star is a point because it has no dimensions. The tip of the rocket is considered a point because it has no dimensions.

  3. Prism A space figure with two congruent, parallel bases that are polygons. www.korthalsaltes.com http://www.gc.maricopa.edu/earthsci/imagearchive/QTZXL2J.jpg This crystal has many sides and also has two congruent bases. This prism is made of paper and has eight sides with two congruent, octagonal bases.

  4. Congruent Items Two or more things that are the exact same size and shape. aged.ces.uga.edu www.discountcandleshop.com The oranges are congruent because they are the same size and the same shape. These candles are the same shape and size.

  5. Parallel Lines Lines that are always the same distance apart and in the same plane. www.exchange3d.com www.autobahn-online.de The bones in the rib cage are parallel because they do not intersect. The highways are running parallel to each other.

  6. Oval An egg-shaped or elliptical form or figure. http://www.perfumania.com/ngimages/big/PR/PRFM-141309.jpg http://office.microsoft.com/clipart/default.aspx?lc=en-us This egg is an oval because has an “egg shape”. This make-up case is considered an oval because of its egg-shaped form.

  7. Similar Items Items which are the same shape but not the same size. www.edwards-enterprises.com http://www.buyclothing.net/discount-clothing/Barbie-discount-clothing.htm These clown fish are similar items because they are the same shape, but not the same size. These matching girl and doll night gowns are also similar items.

  8. Angle An angle is formed when two rays share the same endpoint. www.3aw.com.au http://www.hines.com/property/detail.aspx?id=257 The branches of this tree form angles by having two rays end at one point. The three layers of Houston’s Bank of America building are made into angles.

  9. Ellipse The set of all points in a plane such that the sum of the distances to two fixed points is a constant. http://www.gpnc.org/ellipse.htm http://www.2dcurves.com/conicsection/conicsectione.html Venustaconcha ellipsiformis is considered an ellipse because of the shape of the shell. Tycho Brahe planetarium is an ellipse because of its roof.

  10. Triangle A polygon with three sides and three angles. www.jetro.go.jp http://www.geocities.com/brisbane_butters/BlueTriangle.htm This butterfly’s wings and the blue coloring inside are both triangular. This building in Japan was built in the shape of a triangle.

  11. Cone A shape whose base is a circle and whose sides taper up to a point. www.ameshistoricalsociety.org/ hoggatt.htm http://www.dundee.ac.uk/museum/zoology/bagful/bagful3.htm This cone shell has a circular base and its sides form a point at the top. Traditional “dunce caps” were cone-shaped.

  12. http://www.kitra.com.vn/images/phutu1.jpg Quadrilateral A polygon with four sides. http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000C7LOGU.16._SCLZZZZZZZ_SS260_.jpg http://www.bio.mtu.edu/~enmarch/CH_Square_rock.jpg The rock is in the shape of a quadrilateral because of its many sides. The cover of the patio is a quadrilateral because it is a polygon with four sides.

  13. Pyramid A solid figure with a polygonal base and triangular faces that meet at a common point. http://www.travelblog.org/Australasia/Australia/Victoria/Melbourne/Philip-Island/blog-29861.html www.travel-to-egypt.net/ pyramid-pictures.html This rock is in Australia and is a naturally occurring pyramid. This man-made pyramid is located in Cairo.

  14. Parallel Lines Cut by a Perpendicular Transversal When parallel lines are intersected by a line creating eight 90° angles. www.travel-to-egypt.net/ pyramid-pictures.html http://www.ilovelanguages.com/Wallpaper/papers/window.jpg The panes in this window form parallel lines that are intersected by perpendicular transversals. The shadows from the trees are creating a perpendicular transversal to the parallel railroad tracks.

  15. Parallel Lines Cut by a Non-Perpendicular Transversal When parallel lines are intersected by line creating supplementary angles other than 90° angles. http://www.calacademy.org/research/izg/FieldLocations/Madagascar/Sedimentary%20rock.jpg http://www.northcal.com/images/redwood%20fence%2023.jpg This piece of sedimentary rock was found with naturally occurring parallel lines intersected by non-perpendicular transversals. This fence’s posts have a non-perpendicular line intersecting them.

  16. Intersecting Lines Lines that have one, and only one, point in common. http://static.flickr.com/1/276690_5cac38afd6_m.jpg http://www.fireflyforest.com/flowers/images/yellow/yellow_55/Gutierrezia_ser_400.jpg The stem of the flowers are intersecting because they are only sharing one point. The power lines are intersecting because when two of the lines meet, they share only one point.

  17. Plane A plane is a boundless surface in space. It has length, like a line; it also has width, but not thickness. http://www.openbiblefellowship.org/Land%20from%20top.jpg http://www.mathsisfun.com/geometry/images/plane.jpg The land is considered a plane because of its boundless surface. This floor is a plane because of its boundless surface.

  18. Square Quadrilateral with four equal sides and four 90° angles. http://homepage2.nifty.com/ajac/ http://pergatory.mit.edu/perg/PERG_Pictures/Snowbird_2001/Touring_Sal t_Lake/Big%20building%20in%20Temple%20square.JPG The branches in this tree are forming a square by creating four sides with 90° angles.. The students are making a square on the floor.

  19. Fractal A geometric pattern that is repeated at ever smaller scales to produce irregular shapes and surfaces that cannot be represented by classical geometry. www.neatorama.com http://gregegan.customer.netspace.net.au/APPLETS/13/13.html This is fractal cabbage because it has repeating triangular shapes. This kaleidoscope is a fractal because of all of the many repeating patterns.

  20. Pentagon A polygon having five sides and five interior angles http://www.ceo.ncsu.edu/attack/nyc-images/pentagon.jpg http://www.perfectphoto.ca/Gallery/Flowers/images/RVN_07034.jpg This flower represents a nature-made pentagon because of its implied five sides. The Pentagon in Washington D.C. has five sides and five interior angles.

  21. Transversal A line that intersects a system of other lines. http://photos.soboring.org/images/Thx/tree-branches.jpg http://ameenimages.canalblog.com/transversal.jpg The branches of this tree intersect forming transversals. This bridge is showing intersecting beams.

  22. Sphere A three-dimensional surface, all points of which are equidistant from a fixed point. www.solarviews.com http://www.instituto-camoes.pt/cvc/ciencia/atlas.jpg In this picture, “Atlas” is holding a man-made sphere. The Earth is a three-dimensional sphere.

  23. Tangent A straight line that touches but does not intersect a curve. http://www.arcadeshop.com/pics/3-inch-red-translucent-ball.jpg http://www.altonweb.com/history/fallcolors98/rvp-005.jpg This picture of the sun setting shows a tangent because the horizon is not intersecting the sun. The ball sitting the floor exemplifies a tangent.

  24. Cube A regular solid having six congruent square faces. http://www.pouvoirdespierres.com/pierres/pyritecube.jpg http://www.fchorsens.dk/slogo/cube%20frtilagt.gif This piece of Pyrite is cube-shaped because it has six congruent square faces. This Rubik's Cube has six congruent square faces.

  25. Arc A curved line or any part of it; in particular, a portion of the circumference of a circle. www.wildnatureimages.com http://www.shushyaz.com/images/1256.jpg The rainbow is an arc because it is a curved line. The bow is a man-made example of an arc.

  26. Pythagorean Triple A Pythagorean triple consists of three positive integers a, b, and c, such that a2 + b2 = c2. www.arcytech.org www.thisoldhouse.com The rock is a natural Pythagorean Triple because it forms a right angle. The protractor is a Pythagorean Triple because it is a right triangle (where two sides are equal).

  27. Ray One of a number of lines or parts diverging from a common point or center www.nickcookwoodturner.com www.timenet.org/research.html A shooting star is a ray because there is a starting point that the star shoots from. A yo-yo is a ray because it has a common point extending from the string.

  28. Line A geometric figure formed by a point moving along a fixed direction and the reverse direction. www.goblinworkshop.com opim.wharton.upenn.edu A horizon is a natural line because it is continuous. A fishing pole is a line because it starts at one point and ends a another.

  29. Cylinder The surface generated by a straight line intersecting and moving along a closed plane curve, while remaining parallel to a fixed straight line that is not on or parallel to the plane. www.fakerock.com www.dynatechexports.com A tree stump is a naturally occurring cylinder. This candle is a cylinder because it contains two parallel lines with a circle on the bottom and the top.

  30. Chord A line segment that joins two points on a curve. www.mandoweb.com http://cc.joensuu.fi/seulaset/palviainenen.html This sunrise is a chord because the cloud is joining the sun on two points. This part of the guitar is a chord because the strings are joining the circle on two points.

  31. Circle A plane curve everywhere equidistant from a given fixed point, the center. www.oldemillhouse.com gw.marketingden.com A sun is a natural circle because the curve is equidistant from the center. A clock is a manmade circle because it’s curve is equidistant from the center.

  32. Parabola A geometrical shape consisting of a single bend and two lines going off to an infinite distance. www.onlinebangalore.com www.russellsastronomy.com A contact lens is a manmade parabola it has a single bend (curve) and the ends of the curve could go on forever.. The half moon is a natural occurring parabola because is has a curve, in which, the lines of the curve could continue forever.
