  1. Exploring the Role of the Alberta Business Plan in the Province’s Entrepreneur Pathways In Canada, the majority of the economic immigration begins at the provincial level. In Alberta, for instance, there are three entrepreneur pathways that people may choose from. They will begin their application process by registering directly with Alberta and, if successful, eventually submitting an Alberta Business Plan. The program in Alberta is known as the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP). According to the official Alberta website, the AINP “is an economic immigration program that nominates people for permanent residence in Alberta. Nominees must have skills to fill job shortages in Alberta or be planning to buy or start a business here. They must also be able to provide for their families.” The three entrepreneur pathways under the AINP with will require an Alberta business plan are: · International Graduate Entrepreneur Immigration Stream – This program is for students from other countries who have graduated from certain Alberta post- secondary institutions that wish to start a new or purchase an existing business. · Foreign Graduate Start-Up Visa Program – Foreigners with degrees from abroad who want to launch a start-up or innovative business may apply under this program.

  2. · Self-Employed Farmer Stream – This program is meant for farmers with extensive experience who want to start a farm in Canada. What does every entrepreneur pathway have in common? · Require an Alberta business plan – Like most business endeavors, whether they are meant for immigration purposes or not, an Entrepreneur Pathway will require an Alberta business plan. · Must have a positive benefit on the province – The Alberta business plan will demonstrate that the applicant meets all requirements of their specific entrepreneur pathway. It will also help to illustrate that the proposed business and the applicant themselves will have a positive impact on the overall economy. When is the Alberta business plan required? The Alberta business plan will not be required at the very early stages of the specific entrepreneur pathway. Even so, it’s role in the process is critical. The application process begins with an expression of interest. At this stage, a full business plan is not typically required. The province will review all people who express an interest and then specifically invite people to apply. It is only with an official invitation to apply that the Alberta business plan becomes a requirement. However, the business plan should be ready much earlier in the entrepreneur pathway process. The reason? You will still need to have determined all aspects of your business plan to successfully complete registration and get the best score. Further, your business plan cannot vary – without justifiable cause – from the information submitted in these early stages. Acknowledging the Importance of the Alberta Business Plan Given the importance of the Alberta Business Plan to any entrepreneur pathway in the province, it needs to be done right. Many applicants choose to go it alone and end up causing their application to be denied. At the very least, it will get held up as the government submits requests for clarity of information and further backup. It is for this reason that you should consider hiring a professional to tackle that task. Your immigration lawyer or consultant may be able to refer you to an immigration business plan writing firm or, you can contact one directly.
