  2. Aim • Decide before you start writing whether it is to inform, persuade or motivate. What do you want to achieve from this document? • What is the main point of this document? • Why are they receiving it? • Why is it important? • What do they need to know?

  3. Be honest • Present what the presentation with what people need to hear. • Do not present what people want to hear, they will learn nothing and it will be a waste of time. • Be truthful in your presentations. • People may not want to hear the truth but it will give you the respect later on.

  4. Watch what you say! • Avoid using useless words such as – • Uhm • Ah • Ya know? • It gets frustrating for the audience. • If you do this too much someone in the audience will usually start counting haw many times you use “useless” words.

  5. Talk to your audience • Do not talk at your audience, people hate this. • Ask the audience questions while giving the presentation. • Create conversations with the audience • Interact with your audience, this will help to engage the audience.

  6. Show your personality • Be natural and relaxed • Show character when presenting a presentation. • If you do not show character then you will be perceived as a robot. • Gesture to emphasise key points. • Do not fidget while giving a presentation or solid standing, this will only distract the audience.

  7. Look at the audience • Make eye contact with as many and as much as you can whilst giving a presentation. • To make yourself look confident, establish rapport, get some feedback and personalise your information. • Make eye contact with everyone in the room whilst giving a presentation. • Making eye contact will help to engage your audience and the attention will all be on you.

  8. Be animated • People are more engaged with an animated speaker. • Show some gestured and pace a little • Don’t pace too much • No one enjoys a stiff • Avoid rocking • Avoid shuffling and pacing but move around the room while giving a presentation to release tension.

  9. Be different • Do something different and unique from all other presenters. • If the audience hears something unique they will remember you. • This will make or break your presentation abilities so make it memorable and something different for the audience. • Be clear and project your voice (if needed) for everyone in the presentation to hear you. Articulate your words clearly as people will not strain to hear you for very long.

  10. Don’t use too many visuals • Don’t use too much written words in your power point. • The audience want to hear you speak not read the whole presentation. • Keep the visuals simple and talk about them as well, only use points on them to talk about not too much writing.

  11. Don’t over prepare • Use your notes as needed but do not read off them for the entire presentation. • Don’t rehearse too much otherwise it will sound memorized. • Be prepared enough that your presentation flows naturally. • Know what you are gong to talk about

  12. Show enthusiasm • Use a conversational tone of voice. • Show enthusiasm and commitment to the topic. • Chuck in a joke or two, its healthy to laugh and have a bit of fun while learning.
