What is Tuberculosis? • It mostly often strikes: children and elderly adults • It kills more than 2 million people per year. • Tuberculosis is also known as TB • It’s a contagious bacterial infection spread through the air What are the symptoms? TB in the lungs: • a bad cough that lasts longer than 2 weeks • pain in the chest • coughing up blood Other symptoms of TB: • weakness • weight loss • no appetite • chills • fever • sweating at night
How can you get tested? • A TB skin test is the only way to find out if you have TB infection. • You should get tested for TB if: • You have spent time with a person with infectious TB • You have HIV infection or another condition that puts you at high risk for TB disease What happens to your lungs?
