Role of the Class Tutor Pastoral Care Class • Gets to know the students individually • Monitors personal and academic progress of students • Checks the journal • Liaises with class teachers, Year Head, Guidance Dep, Management • Fosters a sense of community • Fun – House Competitions, Buddy Lunches, Carol & Dance Competitions

Transition to Secondary School • Big transition for students and family • For many students it involves a triple transition: • The move from the familiar school culture to a new one • The informal move from established friendships and peer groups to new peer groupings at second level • The developmental move from childhood to adolescence

  11. What we’ve done so far… • Transition Weeks • Daily Mindfulness Practice • Trip to Glendalough • Sports Afternoon • Team building and group work intro • Cognitive ability testing • Learning days with Bridge 21 (Trinity College) • Wriggle – device deployment and induction

  12. Good habits from the start … • Homework first then fun  • No phone when doing homework • Check learning work is being done • Keep bag, locker organised • Enough brain food to keep them going • Reviewing regularly
