  3. On Number Talks • UC Berkeley was sued for gender discrimination against female in the graduate school admission. The difference in the admission rates was statistically significant.

  4. On Number Talks • Through an investigation it was found that the admission rates for women were actually higher than for men in the majority of departments.

Women tended to apply to competitive departments with low rates of admission even among the qualified applicants (such as in the English Department). • Men tended to apply to less-competitive departments with high rates of admission among the qualified applicants (such as in engineering and chemistry).
