BACKGROUND Brief Description of Group to be Taught: • 5th grade classroom • 24 children • 5 on IEP’s • No ELL children Purpose of Lesson: • The purpose of this lesson is to teach children about different styles of poetry.
Behavioral Objectives/Learning Outcomes for Students:Students will be able create a poem about feelings in the poetic form of a simile. What is a simile? • “A simile is a way of describing something by using the word “like” or “as” to compare it to something else. • For example: • Happiness is like a sunset. • I am as happy as a monkey with a banana.
