  1. Norwegian University of Science and TechnologyTrondheim, Norwayhttp://www.ntnu.no

  2. Some comments – 1.3 conclusions • Good overview – many interesting points • Stratigraphic well through basalt: separate session at EAGE on this topic, project in UK by Phil Christie • Maybe pore pressure prediction should be included? • IF carbonates are expected to be important – maybe this should be considered as a separate issue? • Field wide 4D VSP surveys – realistic? Access to wells, cost, size of mappable 4D...But realisitic for focused problems • Combining reservoir simulation with seismic – not only tool-driven! Need research on WHICH parameters to invert for (permeability, fault properties => 4D seismic & production data; upscaling/downscaling issues...)

  3. Some comments – 1.3 conclusions • 4C, PS data: several surveys (20?) in Norway – few published results => time to launch a consortium focusing on how to get more out of these data sets? • Seismic Acquisition: On-board processing steering in-fill shooting (like ultrasonic imaging) • Rock physics: Shale measurements • Geomechanics: Coupling to reservoir simulation and 4D seismic • Use of long offsets: Yes, and also for 4D

  4. Stronger signal – and higher 4D detectability? Low 4D detectability For small velocity changes the reflectivity changes at normal offsets are small – but the shift in critical angle is more pronounced...

  5. Baseline dv/v = 4% dv/v = 2% RMS (whole trace) versus offset for base and the two monitor surveys – clear shift and amplitude increase observed X = 4D refraction window

  6. Recruitment • Recruitment is stable – but we are not able to attract the best students to petroleum & geoscience – WHY? • Message from the industry in media are non-consistent: • Few exploration wells drilled – it is doubtful that reserve replacement is realistic with current drilling speed • Recruitment forecasting has been overestimated • Difficult to hire excellent professors... • Key companies (Statoil, Hydro, Shell, Conoco-Phillips, BP, Total,...) operating in Norway support Norwegian education significantly (75% of our PhD students receive industrial funding) • Need a continuous effort telling young people that this industry needs creative persons in future...
