Reading • Review of 2010 Standards • Instructors critiqued the draft of the 2010 standards and sent revisions/comments to VDOE coordinator for review • Updated Resources • English Curriculum Reference Guides, Assessments, and Content Review Notes for grades 9 and 10 were revised during summer curriculum of 2011 • Standards were implemented in grades 9 and 10 during the 2011-2012 school year. Grades 11 and 12 continued to operate on the 2002 standards. Resources updated in 2012 for grades 11 and 12 • Teachers created simulated TEI for reading this year

Reading • Assessments • Local assessment items have been revised to include more non-fiction passages • Professional Development Activities (PDA) • Media Literacy PDA held for all English teachers • Representatives from each grade level attended VDOE English Summer Institute and presented to all English staff during pre-service • VDOE resources were shared with instructors at monthly meetings which included: online reading tools, ESS, vocabulary resources, practice items through TestNav, etc • Use of Technology • Articulate software has been purchased for the development of online TEI – updates currently being made

Writing • Implementation Process • Writing followed same process & timeline as Reading • Phased-in of grades 9-10 in 2011-2012 • Full implementation of grades 11-12 in 2012-2013 • Representative served on VDOE SOL Items and Test Review Committee • SOL Writing Rubric • Writing Rubric was included in all Curriculum Reference Guides for students and parents • Teachers have used the rubric to score writing samples throughout the year

Writing • Writing Prompts • VDOE writing prompts are used for district quarterly writing prompts • Teachers also have access to released prompts • District Resources • English Curriculum Reference Guides, Assessments, and Content Review Notes • Teachers have created TEI for writing – also drag and drop and hot spots • Articulate software has been purchased for development of online TEI - currently being updated

Science • VDOE Resources • Instructors have reviewed the Enhanced Scope and Sequence from VDOE and have been encouraged to use the activities in class • Reviewed/Analyzed VDOE Released Practice Items • Increase Laboratory Experiences • Instructors are required to keep Laboratory Logs and increase the number of laboratory experiences for students • Representative served on VDOE SOL Items and Test Review Committee
