YEAR HEAD ROLE • FOR THE STUDENTS: • Get to know them!! • Guide them through the transition. • Motivate, Lead and Monitor. • Listen and Talk. • “Do”s and “Don’t”s • Lead the class tutors • FOR YOU: • Tutor/Year Head is Main Point of contact. • Administrative role • Major link with you, teachers, students, dealing with concerns and anxieties.

  6. STUDENTS/PARENT RESPONSIBILITY • Be prepared for the day • Have homework completed • Be on time! • Be in uniform! • Have journal ready with notes if required • Support school policies and values • Check /Sign Journal

  8. PREPARATION FOR WHAT?? • 9 Class Periods • 12 Subjects • 13 New Teachers + !!!! • New Classmates • Longer School Day • Classroom Movement • NEED: • Books, Pens, Copies etc.

  11. ARRANGEMENT OF CLASSES • Four Classes • Students will follow common course in first year. • Students have access to higher/ordinary level in all subjects

  12. JCSA Junior Certificate Student Award • New English Curriculum starts Sept 2014 • Assessment in 2nd/3rd Year • Final Exam set and marked by State Examinations Commission

  13. A BROAD CURRICULUM.... • Gaeilge • English (New Course) • Maths • Science • History • Geography • Religion (exam subject) • Reading Class • C.S.P.E. (Civic, social, political education) • S.P.H.E. (Social, personal, health education) (Non exam) • Physical Education (Non exam) • Digital Literacy • Plus 2 other subjects….

  14. SUBJECT OPTIONS -sampling over 5 weeks • Before mid-term chose 1 subject from each block. • Language may be needed for college • Aim is to provide best range for each student • Restrictions on numbers in each class

  16. PSN JACKET/FLEECE No other jackets or outerwear are permitted
