  1. Assistive Technology Emilee Johnson ED 505

Definition • Assisted technology devices are devices that help students who have certain special needs such as vision or hearing impairment. • The Assistive Technology Act of 1998 is a grant program that provides federal funds for state programs that address the needs of students with disabilities.

  3. Hearing Impaired Device • A Telecommunications Device for the Deaf (TDD) is a device that is a modified telephone that allows the student to use a QWERTY keyboard to help communicate.

  4. Vision Impaired Device • A braille typewriter is a useful tool for a student with vision impairment. This typewriter can braille letters and symbols.

  5. Learning Disabled Device • Talking calculators are helpful to students who struggle with math. These calculators give the student auditory feedback before he or she puts the answer on paper.

  6. Physical Disabled Device • Voice recognition software is a great tool for people with physical disabilities. They can carry out certain computer tasks by speaking directly into a microphone.
