Methods to expand your search results • Modify your search terms • add terms (related terms, word variants) • combine terms with OR (children OR youth) • use wildcards (child*) • use Explode to include narrower terms • Broaden your search area • change search fields (e.g. title, instead of descriptors • have a search repeated in other databases of the same family

  3. For more search results, add related terms to a search Consult the thesaurus to find terms related to your subject

  4. Use Map Term for a quick scan of the thesaurus young children

  5. Have a look at the narrower terms of ‘Young Children’

  6. ‘Explode’ includes in a search the narrower terms

  7. To include even more terms, return to the thesaurus young children

  8. Add another related term to the search

  10. Another method to increase results is to broaden the search area
