  2. The bows we know now • The recurve bow is the most common. Target arches use these. • The compound bow has a system of two cables and from two to six pulleys built into it. The cables and pulleys make this kind of bow the only one you can pull in a full pulled back position. Compound bows are popular with bow hunters and field archers, but can’t be used in the Olympics. • The long bow was once the most popular, but now not very many people use them. Looks a lot like a straight line.

  3. The old bows uses • Back in the Stone Age they were used to drill holes in wood. • It could be also be used as an axle, which is like a rod or spindle pushed through two or more wheels. • Also, it was used for brain surgery to open the head.

  4. How it came along • It came from the Stone Age. • Stone Age surviving bows can be found in North Europe. • The oldest finds are dated to about 9,200 years ago. • It was invented tens of thousands of years ago.
