  1. BLEKKO Turn Towards Blekko To Protect Yourself From Spams

  2. From most trivial of matters to most important of issues, whenever we need some information we instantly turn towards internet search engines. Some of the major search engines like Google and Yahoo source content from other websites on the World Wide Web using complex algorithm equations that are highly susceptible to SEO and other manipulation. The results displayed, therefore, score low on quality despite being high on numbers. Blekko is a new-age consumer facing search engine which uses a high degree of human involvement along with algorithm equations to deliver high-quality, spam-free results from the most trusted of sites.  • The menace of spam has become widespread and despite the best effort of law enforcement agencies and IT companies, this scourge continues to grow at a much faster rate than before.

  3. What is spam? • Spam is flooding the Internet with unsolicited messages about a host of products and services. It is a form of unsolicited advertising that is forced upon consumers by unscrupulous firms and companies.  • Spams can have some serious repercussions, as unsuspecting and gullible Internet users may believe in the commercial messages they receive of questionable products and quick get-rich schemes like Nigerian scams.  • Nigerian scam is a type of scam which was so christened because it originated in Nigeria. This scam, however, is no longer limited to Nigeria, having spread its tentacles to all parts of the world.

  4. This type of scam usually involves the often played cock and bull story that a huge sum of money needs to be transferred outside the country and the person in question can get to keep a certain percentage of it, if he or she helped to move it out of the country. • This scam got a further boost with the advent of Internet and low operating cost of sending spams. E-mails were directly delivered in the victim’s inbox asking him/her to send certain amount as processing fee. • A huge number of people fell for it and still continue to do so in a fraud that often results in identity thefts and other online frauds. • Spams continue to flourish, as they cost very little to send. The burden of unsolicited advertising is borne by public and Internet service providers. Blekko, since its inception, has declared an all-out war on spams and spammers. It has blocked hundreds of thousands of pages that made use of spamming in one way or the other.

  5. What is spamdexing? • Spamdexing basically refers to spams that target Internet search engines. The word, in fact, is a combination of two words, which are spamming and indexing. • It refers to the unscrupulous practice of manipulating a web page to compel search engines to display them higher than other websites in response to a search query by the user. • It is a frustrating experience for users, as the results that are delivered to them are of low quality and usually irrelevant to the information desired. • Spammers usually make use of Black Hat search optimization techniques to influence their ranking.

  6. What is Black Hat SEO technique and how does it work? • A search engine results page (SERP) is the web page which the search engine returns in response to users’ queries.  • Black Hat SEO technique refers to the unethical practice indulged in by webmasters to trick the search engine to give a higher SERP ranking to their webpages. • One of the tricks used by these tricksters is called keyword stuffing or simply overstuffing. • Tricksters stuff their webpages with dozen or may be hundreds of keywords, so that they are easily picked up by search engines. Some even make use of text matching the page’s background to make them invisible to users.

  7. Another method used by fraudsters is to put irrelevant keywords on their pages to trick search engine. For example, the word ‘game’ may be listed as keyword, whereas in real the website may be selling clothes for teenagers. • Unethical competitors also indulge in a trick called page stuffing. Website developers first create a page that appears high on SERP and then make an exact copy of it to ensure that both pages make it to the top. • It is an unscrupulous means of driving out competition by deliberately thwarting the attempts of other websites from scoring high on SERP. • Selling and framing of links is another favorite indulgence of people interested in Black Hat SEO techniques.

  8. Majority of the search engines place high importance on the number of links that a website has to determine for its relevancy. Miscreants buy links from other sites to boost the rank of their sites. • A link farm is a collection of unholy nexus of Web pages that work on the principal of “you scratch my back, I will scratch yours.” • Web pages are interlinked to one another to increase each other’s ranking in the process, creating a highly frustrating search experience for end users.

  9. Conclusion • Spam can be an effective tool for committing a variety of online frauds. They can be used to transmit viruses and other malicious software.  • Spammers use both human greed and their inexperience to perpetrate a variety of frauds like identity theft, phishing, and advance fee fraud, among others. Blekko is a consumer facing search engine renowned for providing spam free results. It gives preference to quality over quantity, and delivers results only from the most trusted of sites. It does not solely rely on link-based authority preferring to involve human experience in delivering results.
