  3. Know The Regulators • National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) -Construction Activities USEPA • 327 IAC 15-5 Administered by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management • Local Regulations by MS4s and SWCDs

  4. Know The Regulations • SWPPP Submitted to IDEM and MS4 • Public Notice Given • Notice of Intent (NOI) – Must show proof of SWPPP and Public notice. Image from Fanpop.com

Know The Regulations • 70 percent cover for areas not being worked on for 15 days. • Inspections every week or within the first business day after a measurable storm event (.5 inches) • Notice of Termination (NOT) • NOT may only be submitted after a Perennial Stand of Vegetation having 70 percent or greater coverage has been established.

  6. Follow The Regulations and Your SWPPP • Inspect your site at the correct time. • During rainstorms or immediately after. • Driest day in July won’t tell you much. • Improve your BMPs, and Modify or Switch BMPs that don’t work • Update your SWPPP • Avoid offsite discharge of sediment

  7. Manage Your Contractors • If something will effect your bottom line make it effect theirs • Teach them about your SWPPP and how it effects them • Let them know your expectations while they are on your site

  8. During Construction Modification • If it is Broken Fix it!

  9. Stabilize

  10. Sign Off • Submit Your Notice of Termination • Must Have 70 Percent Permanent Perennial Vegetative Cover • Remove temporary sediment control BMPs
