Michigan Treasury Responsibilities Michigan Treasury has a wide range of responsibilities, including: • State and local tax policy • Economic and revenue forecasting • Administration and collection of over $24 billion in taxes and fees • Pension Investment ~ $65 billion in assets • Local government and school financial health • Post-secondary student financial assistance (MET, MESP) • Managing the State’s balance sheet • Managing the State’s relationship with Wall Street and rating agencies

  9. The Road to Opportunity • Treasury looks forward to working together to solve problems so we can put Michigan on the Road to Opportunity. • Fix the roads • Boost public education • Improve skills training • Clean up our drinking water

Budgeting for Michigan’s Priorities • The Governor’s budget will: • Get 90 percent of our roads in good/fair condition by 2030 • Provide every community with cleandrinking water • Achieve 60 percent post-secondary attainment • Make Michigan a top 10 state in third grade literacy • The Governor has made clear that she will not sign a budget that does not fully fund our roads, invest in our education and improve our drinking water.

Budgeting for Michigan’s Priorities • The Governor has proposed increased support for local communities by $14 Million • The Governor’s 2020 budget recommends $1.4 billion in revenue sharing payments: • $262.8 million cities, villages, and townships • $886.5 million for constitutional revenue sharing grants • $228.1 million county revenue sharing and county incentive programs • $2.5 million for support of local projects targeting infrastructure, public safety, blight removal, and other community revitalization efforts
