  1. Funding School sports

  2. The Problem It has been proven that school sports actually improve traits such as responsibility, initiative, social and cross-cultural skills and leadership skills. With out more funding of Tourtellotte’s current school sports, some of our students might not be able to acquire these traits or even be able to experience the fun of playing a school sport. Tourtellotte’s sports have already began to be cut. Take JV softball for example. Many girls enjoy playing softball and want a chance to play. Due to the cut of the JV team this year though, many do not get a chance. The better girls obviously play the games and the others keep the bench warm. It is not fair to the girls who are not the best on their team to sit there and watch their teammates play because they don’t have a team of their own. Many other sports are wearing old, well-used uniforms that probably smell pretty bad and are using equipment that is falling apart or even completely useless. The equipment may have been dropped a time or two but nothing beats the wear and tear of time and our teams do not deserve to use this equipment.

  3. Who Does This Affect? The lack of funding for current school sports at Tourtellotte affects athletes and the whole student body. The students want to be proud of their school teams and when the school dose not have the money to buy at least decent equipment, the team suffers and is less likely to win. Nobody likes their team to loose. Old uniforms are embarrassing too. When other people from other schools see them, they see the players wearing them as less of a threat and their confidence is boosted. The athletes suffer the most from the lack of school funding. With out being able to buy new equipment or fund a JV team, the students do not play as best as they could or do not even get to play at all.

  4. Why Should the Government Step In? Without the government’s help, our current sports teams won’t be able to be the best they can be. We need our government to support our teams and not cut our funding any more than it has already been cut and even give us more funding. We can not be successful with out their help. Who Else Can Help? People and businesses all over the town of Thompson can help in our quest for sport funding. They can donate money, go to town meeting, or even do things as small as signing a petition to help our cause. The more people that get involved, the more likely we will be able to achieve the funding we are trying to get.

  5. Current Public Policies The current public policies retaining to our school sport funding is not efficient for our teams. Our sports are threatened to be cut and some of our JV teams have already been cut. We need to change our pubic policies so that our teams can get the funding they deserve.

  6. There are people who are against our school sports getting the funding they deserve. They believe that we do not need anymore funding than we have and some even believe that our funding can be cut even more than already purposed. These individuals mostly likely have children who are not involved in school sports or don’t even have children enrolled in Tourtellotte. Another issue that may arise from the greater funding would be that one team may receive more money than other teams which could cause a great amount of turmoil. Every one is titled to their own opinions. Arguments
