Habitat Facts Did You Know……. • The Chickasaw people had three different houses • There was a summer house, a winter house, and a storage building • The summer house was rectangular • The winter house had a wood frame with clay covering it • Porches and balconies were on the summer house • The clay on the winter house was for protection against the cold

Clothing Facts • Chickasaw men wore breechcloths or breechclouts • Woman tied up their hair • Breechcloths or clouts are a rectangular piece of cloth or animal hide • Deer skin dresses were popular for the Chickasaw woman • In cold weather leggings were worn under the men’s breechcloth or clout

  4. Chickasaw Hunting • The men started using guns to do the hunting around 1700 • Warriors did sneak attacks on enemies so much, they are known for them • Thirty to Fifty men were in the war groups

Food Facts • They ate deer, buffalo, and bear • They used poisoned nuts to catch fish • Animal calls and decoys were used to catch the deer, buffalo, and bear • Popular foods were: strawberries, persimmons, onions, honey, and nuts • The Chickasaw dried fruit and made tea out of wild roots and herbs

Interesting Facts • Two brothers named Chisca and Chasca inspired the tribes Chickasaw and Choctaw • The Chickasaw and Choctaw tribes used to be one tribe but split up and are now enemies • The Chickasaw’s heads got flattened at birth because of their belief of it to be attractive • Their favorite game is “chunky” it is similar to lacrosse
