  3. He was born on April 5,1856 hale’s ford Virginia. He was a slave of James and Elizabeth Burroughs. • Died on November 15,1915 in Tuskegee, Alabama (aged 59) • His mother Jane was a cook and his father was a white man from a nearby farm also had a step father with a half sister and half brother. • Washington married 3 times and had two sons and one daughter. • He make a book called Up From Slavery in 1900.   4. Washington was married 3 times • To Fannie Smith from 1882 until her death 1884. • Then he married Olivia Davis on 1885 until her death in 1889. • Last Margaret Murray from 1893 until his death in 1915. Who he married

  5. At age 16, he had walked up to 500 miles back to Virginia to enroll in a new school for black students. • He knew that even poor students could get an education at Hampton Institute, paying their way by working. • After finishing up Hampton he attended College of Wayland Seminary. Growing up
