  1. What Should Mothers Wear on their Daughters’ Wedding?

  2. There was a time not so long ago when the mothers of the brides were required to look age-appropriate, wear matronly dresses, and limit their choice of colors to washed-out beige or cream. Today, mothers of brides give vent to their creative dress code expressions and freely take the less traveled route. So what should you wear as amother of the brideand how should you go about selecting your dress?

  3. · Follow the bride – Ask your daughter about any special cue or theme that she and the groom have decided for the wedding. It might be a country affair with casual attire or a strictly formal black-tie affair. Since you a crucial member of the wedding, you should look your part in the wedding group photographs. Take the guidelines of what type of dress to wear from your daughter first before plunging into a shopping spree. · Color cues from the wedding party – The mother of the bridedress should match the shade worn by the important people taking part but not necessarily be the same. If the attendants or the bridesmaids are wearing blue or brown or black, select a shade that is close like a lighter or darker shade. For black, wear silver or gray dress. If the cue is brown, opt for any shade of beige. The color should complement the wedding theme and not be the same. Wearing the same color as the bride is a big no-no. She is the star of the wedding and nothing should take the top podium away from her. · The venue and the weather – The venue is an important factor to be considered while selecting a mother of the bridedress. Take the instance of a church wedding. You would definitely not want to wear a strapless dress there but that would be fine for a beach wedding. If you do want to wear the same dress at a chapel, put on a jacket, or have a lovely wrap around you. Keep the weather in mind too. For a chilly winter evening wedding, make sure that you are adequately protected from the cold.

  4. · Plan well in advance – Start your planning for the wedding dress at least three months before the great day. There are two reasons for this. First, if you want a dress tailor-made to your style, you have to give adequate time for stitching and fittings, and alterations. You can of course buy one off the shelf from specialist stores or bridal salons but that too might require some tucking in or out. Second, it is traditional for the mother of the brideto choose her dress first and inform the mother of the groom about her choice. Hence, you must give her sufficient time to finalize her outfit. Keep these factors in mind when selecting a dress for your daughter’s wedding.
