  1. Los mandatos Español Tres

  2. Regular Positive Tú Commands • To form a regular positive tú command, just write the él/ella/usted form of the verb in the present tense Exs.-Habla. Speak. Come. Eat. Duerme. Sleep. • Never write the subject in front of a command.

  3. Regular Negative Tú Commands • To form a regular negative tú command, first write the word “no,” and then write the “yo” form of the verb in the present tense, drop the “o” and then write the opposite “tú” ending. Exs.- No hables. (Don’t talk). No comas. (Don’t eat). No duermas. (Don’t sleep). • Notice that we do write the present tense stem changes in both the positive and negative tú commands.

  4. Tú Commands with Verbs that End in CAR, GAR and ZAR • For verbs that end in CAR, GAR, and ZAR, the positive tú commands follow the regular rules: Exs.- Practica. (Practice). Juega. (Play). Empieza. (Begin). • For the negative tú commands, first write the word “no,” and then take off the CAR, GAR or ZAR and write the following endings: CAR: ques, GAR: gues, ZAR: ces Exs.- No practiques. No juegues. No empieces. • On the next slide is a list of irregular tú commands

  5. Reflexive Tú Commands • To write a positive reflexive tú command, write the positive tú command, attach “te” to the end and write an accent mark three syllables back (unless the command is two syllables). Exs.- Siéntate. (Sit down). Diviértete. (Enjoy yourself). • To write a negative reflexive tú command, write the negative tú command rules and write “te” in front. Exs.- No te sientes. No te diviertas. • Direct and indirect objects also work this way.

  6. Vosotros Commands • Positive vosotros commands are formed by replacing the “r” at the end of an infinitive with a “d” Exs.- Hablad. Comed. Dormid. • For negative vosotros commands, write the word “no,” then write the yo form in the present tense, and then drop the “o” and write the opposite vosotros ending. Exs.- No habléis. No comáis. No durmáis. • Stem changes for vosotros commands only for IR verbs that stem-change in the present tense (e-i, o-u) Exs.- No durmáis. No pidáis. • The c-qu, g-gu and z-c rule applies to negative vosotros commands only

  7. Irregular Vosotros Commands

  8. Reflexive Vosotros Commands • For positive reflexive vosotros commands, drop the letter “d” and add “os” to the end of the command. Ex.- Sentaos. (Sit down). Exception: Idos. (Go away). • For IR verbs, write an accent on the “i.” Ex.- Divertíos. Enjoy yourselves. • Negative vosotros commands are formed by writing the pronoun in front of the negative command: Ex.- No os vayáis. (Don’t go). (Ir is an irregular negative vosotros command). • Direct and indirect objects also work this way, except don’t drop the “d” in the positive command

  9. Nosotros Commands • Nosotros commands translate to “let us”+verb • They are formed by writing the “yo” form in the present tense, dropping the “o” and writing the opposite nosotros ending Exs.- Hablemos (Let’s talk). Comamos. (Let’s eat). • No stem changes for AR/ER nosotros commands • IR nosotros commands stem change from o-u and e-i Exs.- Durmamos. (Let’s sleep). Pidamos. (Let’s ask). • To make the commands negative, write “no” in front • The c-qu, g-gu and z-c rule still applies here

  10. Irregular Nosotros Commands

  11. Reflexive Nosotros Commands • With positive reflexive nosotros commands, drop the final “s” and attach “nos” to the end. Also, write an accent three syllables back. Exs.- Sentémonos. (Let’s sit down). Vámonos. (Let’s go). • With negative reflexive nosotros commands, write the word “no” in front of the command. Exs.- No nos sentemos. No nos vayamos. • Direct and indirect objects work the same way, except do not drop the “s” in the positive command

  12. Regular Usted and Ustedes Commands • To write the positive usted command, write the “yo” form in the present tense, drop the “o” and write the opposite él/ella/usted ending Exs.- Hable. (Speak). Coma. (Eat). • To write the positive ustedes command, write the “yo” form in the present tense, drop the “o” and write the opposite ellos/ellas/ustedes ending Exs.- Hablen. Coman. • To write negative usted and ustedes commands, just write “no” in front of the command • The c-qu, g-gu, and z-c applies to Ud. and Uds. commands

  13. Irregular Usted and Ustedes Commands

  14. Reflexive Usted and Ustedes Commands • For positive usted and ustedes commands, attach the word “se” to the end and write an accent three syllables back (unless it is two syllables). Exs.- Siéntese. (Sit down). Siéntense. (Sit down). • For negative commands, write the word “se” in between the word “no” and the verb. Exs.- No se siente. No se sienten.

  15. Indirect Commands • These commands use the same endings as usted and ustedes commands • They must begin with the word “que” (unaccented) • The word “que” translates to let, have or may in English Ex.- Que lo haga Juan. (Let Juan do it). • To make them negative, put the word “no” after the word “que.” • Do not attach reflexive pronouns with these commands
