  3. 3 Portfolios: • 2-D Design • Focus on Elements and Principles • Can include digital and photo Nathanael E. Faubion • Drawing • Focus on “Mark Making” • Can include paintings Adriane Santa Croce • 3-D Design • Wide range of materials • Oriented toward concept and form Quinn Bell

  4. Class Overview Grades: 1/3 class performance 1/3 each set of assignments (six total per quarter) • Procedures: • Use class time to work on your art • Clean up when you are done for the day.

  5. Complete the grade cover sheet: Check appropriate bubbles and sign name at the top. Paperclip both breadth pictures and the thumbnail sketches to the cover sheet. Place in blue folder on teacher’s desk. Complete the grade cover sheet, same as for flat work. Paperclip three masterpieces to the cover sheet, and place inside blue folder. Sign in for grading. Procedure for turning in art for grading

  6. Portfolio Candidates • Exempt all nine weeks tests • Exempt Final Exam in May • Send Portfolios off for scoring ( Scores do not affect g.p.a.)

  8. Three Parts of Portfolio • Quality • Breadth • Concentration

  9. 2-D Design Requirements: • Quality (5 pieces) • 5 actual works that demonstrate mastery of design in concept, composition, and execution • Concentration (12 slides) • A body of work investigating a strong underlying visual idea in 2-D design • Breadth (12 slides) • Works that demonstrate a variety of concepts and approaches in 2-D design

  10. Quality-2D Design • 5 original works • Prints/graphic arts • scratchboard • canvas paintings • drawings

  11. 2-D Design Requirements: • Quality (5 pieces) • Actual pieces are mailed • Maximum size 18”x24” Tom Bongiorno Score: 6 So Yeong Park Score: 5 Heather Wilson Score: 4

  12. Quality-Drawing • Five original drawings: • charcoal • oil pastel • chalk pastel • pen and ink • wide range value pencil • drawing collage

  13. Concentration • 12 slides of your chosen area of subject and style • should show progress / growth • needs developed idea • ought to be narrow and specific • written commentary

  14. 2-D Design Requirements: • Concentration (12 slides) • A body of work used to develop an idea • Idea is generated by the STUDENT Nathanael E. Faubion

  15. Breadth • 12 slides of your art in four areas: • color • design • drawings • all assigned in class

  16. Color • Tones flesh tones, browns, beige, complementary colors mixed • Warm/Cool colors r,o,y / g.b.v. • Monochromatic • Dark Color Shades

  17. Design • radial(computer) • symmetrical (computer) • free-form shapes repeat(collage) • positive/negative (scratchboard)
