  1. The TeleApp Process For producer use only. Not for use with consumers

  2. What is TeleApp? TeleApp is another way to take an individual disability Insurance (IDI) application. It is a convenient way to submit an application that uses a third party vendor to ask the medical questions on the IDI application using a telephone interview. The telephone interview is conducted by LifePlans.* LifePlans is an independent vendor and not affiliated with or otherwise a part of The Standard

  3. Features of TeleApp • Available in all states (except NY) • Can be used for all products in The Protector Series disability insurance: • The ProtectorSM* • The Protector+SM • The Business ProtectorSM • The Business Equity ProtectorSM and for • All occupation classes • Old Fashioned Underwriting • Second Chance Underwriting The Protector is only available in California. The Protector+ is not available in CA.

  4. How is the TeleApp process initiated? The first step is to print the state-specific Application for Disability Insurance. The “traditional” application is also used for TeleApp. The Standard’s state specific applications can be found at www.standard.com/di Click on Find Forms and choose the state specific application from New Business Forms. If you are familiar with the application packets, you will notice some changes to the content.

  5. IDI application packets changes • A new instruction page has been added to the application packet after the Disability Insurance Application Checklist and Cover Sheet. It is titled TeleApp Producer Instructions. • Please review these instructions. They will guide you and your customer through the TeleApp process

  6. Discussion Topics for Disability Insurance Prospects

  7. Discussion Topics for Disability Insurance Prospects This page of the application packet is not new. All of these questions should always be reviewed with your customer, however, for TeleApp, The Standard requires that the answers to questions 1 through 4 are provided with the application before ordering the phone interview.

  8. Discussion Topics for Disability Insurance Prospects You can document answers on this form, in theRemarks section on the Producer Information or on a separate cover memo. If your customer discloses any medical history in discussing these questions, contact your MGA or SMP so they can discuss the issue with an underwriter at The Standard before you submit the application. This will help to manage your customer’s expectations with regard to the possible outcome of underwriting, and help to reduce wastage caused by declines, rated and/or not-taken cases.

  9. How to notify The Standard that you are using TeleApp On the Producer Information Report for Application for Disability Insurance, please check Yes on Question 16 and follow the instructions regarding the discussion topic questions 1, 2, 3, and 4 referenced earlier.

  10. Completing the IDI application • After reviewing the discussion topics with your customer and if there are no medical issues to be discussed with the Underwriting Department at The Standard, proceed to complete the rest of the application. • All application questions except the medical questions must be answered by the applicant. • The medical questions are on pages 4 and 5 (In California, pages 6 and 7) of the Application for Disability Insurance. When you print the application you may remove these pages or keep them with the application packet. • After you have completed the application with your customer, please submit to your MGA or SMP, who will forward it to The Standard’s home office.

  11. The Telephone Interview

  12. Underwriting review When the application requesting TeleApp is received at The Standard, the Underwriting Department will review the application to confirm that • TeleApp has been indicated on the Producer Information Report, • The answers to questions 1, 2, 3, 4 from the Discussion Topics for Disability Insurance Prospects have been submitted and • The non-medical questions on the application have been completed.

  13. Ordering the TeleApp Interview • The Underwriting Department will contact LifePlans to request the telephone interview. • LifePlans will contact your customer to schedule an appointment to conduct the telephone interview. • During the telephone interview, LifePlans will document the answers on pages 4 and 5 (in California pages 6 and 7) from the Application for Disability Insurance and forward this information to The Standard. • The Standard will include a copy of the complete application in the issued policy

  14. The TeleApp Interview Experienced nursing professionals will talk with your customers. They are skilled in collecting detailed medical information and are flexible with scheduling appointments to meet your customers’ needs. LifePlans will record the answers to the medical questions on The Standard’s Application for Disability Insurance which, as mentioned earlier, will also be included with the issued policy. At policy delivery, please review the answers with your customer to confirm that the answers were complete, true and accurate at the time of the application.

  15. Questions? If you have questions about using TeleApp with The Standard, please contact your MGA or SMP.
