  3. Expectations • Teacher: • Challenge students to achieve their full potential • Provide a safe, comfortable learning environment • Coach rather than director • Student: • Come to class prepared • 3 R’s: Respect, Responsibility, Reliability • Keep an open-mind to different points of view

  4. What is Environmental Science? • Interdisciplinary science • Examines the impact of humans on the natural world • Use of natural resources & Actions that alter the environment • Analyze environmental problems, evaluates risks, and examine possible solutions & alternatives

  9. Land and Water • Land usage, management, and conservation • Food and Agriculture • Human nutritional needs • Green Revolution & sustainable agriculture • Water resources, usage, and management

  10. Energy Usage and Resources • Renewable vs. nonrenewable resources • Alternative sources of energy.

  11. Pollution • Water, air, noise, and solid waste • What are we doing & how can we make a difference?

  13. Grading • Total points • Graded assignments due at the start of class on the due date for full credit. • Cumulative project will replace final exam. Project will be introduced at start of 2nd sem. • Grades posted online in Genesis • Progress reports only for struggling students (C- or below OR if there is a 2 letter grade drop)
