Discover Lewiston's Amusement Park History and Vintage Transportation

Did you know that Lewiston, Maine, once boasted its own amusement park called Island Garden? Located on an island in the Androscoggin River, visitors had to cross a suspension bridge to reach the park, which unfortunately burned down and was never rebuilt. Before city buses, trolley cars were the primary means of travel. The Grand Trunk Station also welcomed many trains, including the famous Yankee Flyer, facilitating the arrival of French Canadian settlers. Lewiston even produced the remarkable Stanley Steamer, a steam-powered car that captured the imagination of many!
