  2. What Are Electronic Gradebooks? • Gradebooks done electronically, as in not by hand. • Can be done online, or • Can be done with software on the computer. • Sometimes school districts require teachers to use a certain gradebook.

  3. Here is a Demo to Better Your Understanding… • http://www.snapgrades.net/

  4. PROS Teachers can manage data more easily - They can set weights and percentages once and only worry about entering grades. Progress reports are easy to pull from a gradebook at any given time- even without advanced notice. Students and parents can access grades at their leisure. CONS Grades must be sumbitted and entered promptly. Missing assignments must be entered as a “0” because it will be skipped over and inflate grade average with an empty spot. Parents will not get full spectrum of how their child is doing with a set number grade. There are Many Pros and Cons to Electronic Gradebooks

  5. Rule #1 No Surprises! Keeping in touch with students’ parents is very important. This way, if parents are expecting high grades when they aren’t really there, they will not be surprised when the report card comes home!

  6. Rule #2 Use Lots of Scores! Using lots of shorter and smaller assignments makes it easier for a child to succeed. Students will struggle to keep a high grade if there are only a few large scale assignments.

  7. Rule #3 A Change For One is a Change For All You cannot make exceptions for one student- you will need to then make that exception for all of your students.

  8. Rule #4 Stick to Your Rules Inform students what is expected of them and only make changes if something constitutes as demoralizing or ineffective.

  9. Rule #5 Know Your Objectives Knowing what you are supposed to teach is important- grading based on that is even more important. Make sure all assignments have an objective and are assignments you can grade based on those objectives.

  10. Rule #6 Keep Your Grade Book Current! This is important whether or not you are using a district grade book. Even if you are using your own personal grade book.

  11. Rule #7 Find A Grade Book Online That Works For You! ALWAYS USE A FREE TRIAL BEFORE YOU PURCHASE A GRADE BOOK SOFTWARE OR ONLINE!

  12. Rule #8 You Are Creating a Legal, Public Document When You Create a Grade! It is not recommended to enter grades on your personal computer. Instead, enter your grades on your work computer!

  13. Rule #9 Establish A Routine! Decide what grade book you will be using and stick with it! Describe to your students what your grading routine is- how long will it take to get their grades back to them?

  14. Rule #10 Make Sure Students Have A Fair Change To Get A “Fair Grade” Decide in advance how you will be grading things and let your students know what is expected of them!
