  2. Maximizing AC efficiency allows you to enjoy air conditioning comfort without sending your utility bills through the roof. Start by using correct thermostat programming for optimal operation.

  3. Choose the Right Set point Temperatures When programming your device, keep in mind that the smaller the difference between outdoor and indoor temperatures, the more money you’ll save: • When the weather’s hot outside, a set point temperature of around 78 degrees Fahrenheit should keep you comfortable. Raise the setting by at least four degrees at night. • If you’re away during the day, boost the setting by at least seven degrees. It takes less energy to restore preferred temperatures than to keep your AC running at that lower set point while you’re out. Temperatures should be set for no less than eight hours at a time. Frequently adjusting the thermostat will only lead to energy waste.

  4. Follow Thermostat Programming Rules For every degree you raise the AC temperature during an 8-hour period, you can expect to shave one percent off your cooling bill. A programming schedule that includes energy-saving settings when you’re asleep or away at work is ideal.

  5. Take Advantage of Smart Features Smart temperature controls that you can access from internet-enabled devices make it easy to track your energy usage. Features include real-time or monthly energy reports that boost thermostat programming for optimum savings.
