  2. NALMS’ History • Founded in 1980 by those who study, manage and enjoy lakes and reservoirs • Membership includes professionals from academia, federal, state and local government and lay members with lake associations and nonprofits;

  3. NALMS’ Chapters • Chapters in 21 states, two Canadian provinces, and a regional chapter in New England;

  4. Sharing Information on Lakes and Reservoirs LAKELINE • Quarterly information and education magazine shares information on lakes, reservoirs and their watersheds from around the world.

  5. Sharing Information on Lakes and Reservoirs Lake and Reservoir Management • NALMS’ peer-reviewed journal includes papers on latest lake and reservoir research and applied lake management.

  6. Sharing Information on Lakes and Reservoirs Certified Lake Manager Program • Lake manager certification allows professionals to earn certification signifying they have met established standards for their profession.

  8. NALMS To forge partnerships among citizens, scientists, and professionals to foster the management and protection of lakes and reservoirs for today and tomorrow. ACWI The purpose of the Committee will be to represent the interests of water-information users and professionals in advising the Federal Governments on activities and plans related to Federal water-information programs in meeting the Nations water-information needs. NALMS’ Mission & ACWI’s Charter

  9. NALMS & ACWI • Shared interest in the collection and dissemination of water-information; • Recognize the importance of all levels of monitoring, ranging from volunteer monitoring efforts (e.g., “Secchi Dip-In”), to trend and status monitoring, to detailed diagnostic monitoring;

  10. NALMS & ACWI • NALMS has history of working with Federal Government on water issues, e.g., EPA, USACE, NRCS,TVA and USGS

  11. NALMS & ACWI • Examples: NALMS worked with EPA to develop Managing Lakes and Reservoirs, Nutrient Criteria work groups, State of the Lakes annual meeting, etc.

  12. NALMS & ACWI NALMS’ annual symposia, quarterly publications and web site provide means to share and disseminate water information–in particular, that which can be used to further the protection and management of lakes and reservoirs.

  13. NALMS & ACWI NALMS looks forward to the opportunity to work with USGS via ACWI in a much closer fashion and will do what it can to promote efforts to collect and share information that furthers the protection and management of the Nation’s water resources. www.nalms.org
