  2. Class information and Schedule • We currently have 17/18 students. • Schedule • Arrival: 8:00 (tardy bell- 8:10) • Morning: Phonics, Calendar, Centers, Small group instruction • Lunch 11:00-11:30 • Afternoon: Reading, Recess, Social Studies, Science, Math, Writing • Dismissal: 3:45

  3. Classroom expectations: • Keep hands and feet to yourself • Follow directions/stay on task • Respect other’s rights and property • Quiet voices • Take turns • Be safe • Take care of your supplies • Follow center rules

  4. Red behavior folders • Empty daily • Unfinished work • Parent communication • Initials nightly and sign weekly • Extra pages • Conduct • Color changing system • Smiley/Frowny

  5. Tardies, Attendance, Early Outs • The School day is from 8:00-3:45. The first bell rings at 8:00 a.m. • We need students here 100% of the time • Attendance is vital to our students’ overall academic success. • Parents/Guardians are to contact the school when the student is absent. • Early Outs- The school day ends at 3:45. Early outs can negatively impact student completion of assignments and instructional learning. Checking the student out prior to that should only be reserved for doctor’s appointments and family emergencies. Please be sure to bring a note to excuse the early out.

  6. Arrival and dismissal • For safety reasons . . .please bring written note if transportation will change. • If emergency changes take place, please call office prior 2:00 to ensure that students/teacher will receive adequate notice • Only one pick-up and drop-off (behind the gym – we have staff on duty @ 7:15 a.m.)

  7. LPISD Dress Code- (located in the student handbook) • Shorts, dresses, and skirts must be below fingertips. • No inappropriate graphics on clothing. • No tears in pants. • Socks must be worn at all times • No opened toe shoes • Hair needs to be neatly groomed and clean.

  8. Roadrunner cafe • Prices: $1.25 breakfast; $2.25 lunch • lunch system (students will need to learn their ID numbers this year) • Snacks at lunch (Tuesday & Thursday only) • *We eat lunch at 11:00 am- 30 minutes lunch • For birthdays, if you plan to bring cupcakes/cookies (store bought only), you may drop them off the front office; keep in mind that we will have to give them out at the end of the day.

  9. Snack Time! • We have an early lunch. • The kids are hungry by mid afternoon. • Teachers have been providing snack since the first day of school. • Starting in September, we are requesting that 5 students a week will bring a snack to share with the class. • You will receive a schedule so that you can plan ahead. Please send your snack with your student on your specified Monday. • Please send enough for 18 students. • Suggestions are: goldfish crackers, animal crackers, pretzels. • Something dry and with little clean up. • If there is a problem, please contact your child’s teacher.

  10. School supplies • If you have not yet completed your students school supplies, please do so as soon as possible, especially crayons, glue sticks, and headphones. • If you need a copy of the list, they are available in the front office or on the Back to school link at LPISD.org • If there is a problem, please contact your child’s teacher.

  11. Goals for kindergarten • Have your child reading and writing by the end of the year • Have them ready for 1st grade • Independence • Be a proud and successful student • Fall in love with learning and school!

  12. Homework • Daily Reading (Please read to your child each day) • Reading Folder: books and other reading materials (initial folders starting next week) (15 minutes daily) • Sight word practice (coming soon) • Because of the direct correlation between a student reading nightly at home and their reading success, students who do not have their reading folder signed nightly will be required to sit and read during recess beginning on Monday, September 10th. Students are required to read Monday through Thursday and 1 day of the weekend. • The kindergarten Accelerated Reader goal is for the student to read 50 books each 9 weeks to meet their goal. There is an incentive party each 9 weeks for students who meet their goal. Students do not have to read 50 different titles, they can read a book more than once, but they must have logged at least 50 books on their reading log.

  13. Kindergarten Readiness skills: • Promote a love of Reading • You are your child’s First Teacher! • You are a powerful Role Model • Read to your child • Read with your child • Talk about the story and pictures • Have fun with words- rhythm and rhyme of the language

  14. Benefits of Reading with Your Child • Development of larger vocabulary. • Development of longer attention spans. • Promotes a greater understanding of book and print. • Value Reading and learning. • Opportunities to spend quality time with your child.

  15. Think Beyond Books: • Environmental Print: Words and phrases that surround us • Billboards • Restaurant signs • Menus • Grocery store • Traffic signs • Cereal boxes • Magazines

  16. Communication • Model for your child • Oral language • Written language • Nonverbal communication • Listening skills • Speaking skills

  17. Pto- parent-teacher organization • We encourage all parents to join PTO. This does not mean that you have to attend meetings. • The money from your membership pays for Field Trips and other fun events at JRE • Memberships are $5.00 per family • New spirit shirts are also being sold in the cafeteria.

  18. Other important information • Please label all backpacks, lunchboxes, and jackets with your child’s name. • Please do not allow your child to bring or wear anything that will become a distraction. (ex: toys, silly bands and other jewelry) • Thanksgiving lunch~*White Pillowcase • Christmas~ Program; White t-shirt • Parties (2 per year): Christmas  and End of Year • Field Trip- Old MacDonald’s Farm  (October, 2018) • Classroom Webpage: www.LPISD.org • Campuses~JRE~Faculty~Kinder
