  21. ES IV Data Workshop November 19, 2004 ES IV Survey - Conclusions (1) Less than a third of all patients has care-giving responsibilities for children younger than 18. Caregivers and patients without children differed with respect to — age (caregivers were younger) — gender (more women among caregivers) — origin (more migrants among caregivers) — HIV transmission route (more likely to have acquired HIV through unprotected heterosexual contact) — about a third of all caregivers is single parent — migrant caregivers have more children than European caregivers Supported by the European Commission, grant agreement SPC.2002418 "The Commission is not liable for any use of information provided in this presentation".

  22. ES IV Data Workshop November 19, 2004 ES IV Survey - Conclusions (2) — Results cannot be transferred as such (representative samples?) to the general population of PLWH — Recent epidemiological trends in Europe have indicated an increase of heterosexual transmissions and of women infected — “Normalization of HIV” implies that an increasing number of families are affected — Yet, in care and counselling, the family context tends to be overlooked — Questionnaire data reveals more in-depth the psychosocial problems and needs of families living with HIV Supported by the European Commission, grant agreement SPC.2002418 "The Commission is not liable for any use of information provided in this presentation".
