USING SIMULATION IN ARENA TO MODEL MANUFACTURING PROCESS TO INCREASE DEPARTMENT THROUGHPUT & EFFICIENCY Andrew Adams, Jeff Janiak, Danny Sasso, Jae Jin Oh Current System Company Background Benefits, Verification, Validation • Currently there are 4 employees within the department • Each employee works independently of each other • Each employee has their own queue Moog components group, headquartered in Blacksburg, VA, is the worlds leading slip ring manufacturer. Formed in 1953 as Poly-Scientific has operations worldwide supplying motion technology for a ride range of applications. Benefits of this project will be a 25% increase in weekly throughput of parts for the department. This will give Moog an additional $XX,XXX in weekly revenues. The alternatives were verified by comparing multiple simulation run times to actual process times in the department. We also created confidence intervals to verify our simulation was producing accurate and reliable results. Start new part Manual Operation Machine Operation Package & Ship Objective Methods Moog components group currently has to meet a production schedule that demands, on average, ten parts per week. Given the demanding schedule and the consistent inflow of customer returns and failed units, Moog needed an effective solution to improve the departmental throughput and efficiency. The dotted arrows in the methodology section indicates future works that should be done in order to justify the proposed solutions. This research is limited since it was not based on observations from the actual construction site.
