  2. Where We’ve Been… • Lots of “love” but funding level doesn’t reflect our work, scope, & NC’s needs • Examined success of Mississippi: What could we learn? • Realized a need for a new approach – no matter what the economic outlook • Time to say: We love the “love” but we need $$$

  3. Where We’ve Been… • This led to the Collective Strength and Work of: • Local Trustees • State Board of Community Colleges • Community College Presidents • System Office • Has been presented to: • Business Champions • Faculty Association • Student Governments

  4. Where We Are…. • One budget strategy over two biennia • One simple ask: an additional $1,000 per student over 4 years • One slogan: Creating Success • Three budget areas: • Creating Success for NC’s Students • Creating Success in Critical Careers • Creating Success for NC’s Businesses

  5. Creating Success for North Carolina’s Students • Faculty and Staff Salaries: • $119 million • Gets us to national average by 2013 • Technology and Equipment: • $20 million • Request all T&E funding as recurring • Represents 70% of our total request

  6. Creating Success in Critical Careers • Healthcare: • $37 million • Addresses State’s growing healthcare worker shortage • Technical Education: • $18 million • Recruit for, re-energize and re-emphasize careers demanded by State’s economy

  7. Creating Success for North Carolina’s Businesses • Customized Training Programs: • $7 million • First increase in a decade • Combine with new flexibility to meet growing worker training needs

  12. Creating Success: Advocacy and Legislative Info • What we’ve accomplished: • Selected a marketing firm • Created a Legislative leave-behind • Template for Success Stories and for delegation presentations • Started drive for 1,000 success stories • Developing TV/radio ads

  13. Creating Success: Advocacy and Legislative Info • What can you do? • Help incorporate the slogan, “Creating Success” and “hope, opportunity, jobs” into everything you do • Look for opportunities to push our successes/budget requests internally and externally
